DoorKing Welding & Fabrication: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

If you have a DoorKing gate operator or gate frame with a broken weld, a cracked bracket, or a hinge pulled loose, we stock the fabrication parts to fix it and can usually have the work done the same week. Installed pricing in Fort Worth for DoorKing welding and fabrication work typically runs $220 to $680 depending on the part and the damage. Most owners discover the problem the same way: the gate starts sagging, dragging, or making a grinding sound, and a closer look shows metal that has finally let go after years of Texas sun and daily cycles.

We are an independent Fort Worth gate company that works on DoorKing equipment every week. We are not affiliated with DoorKing, but we carry their most common fabrication parts and weld repairs to match the original metalwork. And we stand behind it with our 90-Day Done Right Promise.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

DoorKing builds its operators with a mix of stamped steel, cast aluminum, and welded steel assemblies, and the fabrication work varies by series. The 9000-series slide gate operators, for example, use a heavy welded steel chassis and chain tray brackets that crack at the mounting ears after years of vibration. The 6000-series swing operators rely on an articulating arm with a cast elbow joint that wears and eventually snaps if the gate sags even slightly. The 1601 and 1602 barrier gate operators have a different failure point entirely: the aluminum arm clamp and pivot block, which oval out and then fracture under repeated impact from wind gusts on long arms.

The quickest way to identify what you have is to look at the metal tag riveted to the operator housing. It lists the model and serial number. We need both, because DoorKing changed the weld bracket dimensions on the 9000-series around 2014, and an older bracket will not line up with the newer chassis without modification. When we make that modification, we do it with the old part off and the new part fitted, dressed, and primed before it ever touches the gate.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question, our honest recommendation is this: for structural parts that carry the weight of a moving gate, stick with OEM DoorKing steel or a heavier aftermarket equivalent. For non-structural brackets and covers, a good domestic aftermarket part is usually fine and costs less. We will tell you which is which on the phone before we ever dispatch a truck.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags toward the free end. The most common cause is a cracked weld at the hinge or a stretched hinge pin bore. On a DoorKing swing system, the operator arm then has to lift the gate as it pushes, which overloads the arm joint.
  • You hear a rhythmic creak or pop during operation. That sound is almost always a broken or partially separated weld flexing under load. It runs fine for weeks, then it does not.
  • The operator arm looks crooked or the gate hesitates mid-cycle. When a DoorKing arm bracket bends or cracks, the geometry changes and the motor strains against the misalignment. The amp draw goes up, the speed becomes uneven.
  • Fresh rust staining or a visible crack at a weld joint. In Fort Worth’s clay soil and summer humidity, a crack starts as a hairline, wicks in moisture, and rusts from the inside out. By the time you see the stain, the weld has usually lost most of its holding strength.
  • The gate post has shifted or the base plate is lifting. On slide gates, the welded base plate at the post is the anchor for everything. Once it moves, the entire track alignment follows, and the operator is fighting the gate on every cycle.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, typical installed costs for DoorKing welding and fabrication work run from $220 up to about $680 depending on the part and the size of the repair. A simple bracket replacement with a stock OEM part lands at the lower end. A cracked weld on a heavy steel chassis that requires cutting, grinding, re-welding, and reinforcement plate work lands at the upper end. Custom fabrication of a part that is discontinued costs more and gets quoted before we cut any steel.

You will know the price before we turn a single bolt. We quote the job upfront, parts and labor together, no surprises on the bill. Every repair carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the weld does not hold or the part does not fit right, we come back and make it right. That is not a sales line. That is the standard we have kept for over 42 years in this business.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things an owner can check safely. You can look for visible cracks in the powder coat, feel for looseness at the hinge bolts, and watch the gate as it cycles to see if it moves smoothly or jerks. What you should not do is attempt to weld a live gate yourself. A gate under tension or supported by a failing part can shift suddenly, and a bad weld on a moving gate can fail catastrophically while someone is standing under it. We have seen homeowner welds that looked fine from three feet away and failed within a month, usually because the metal was not prepped or the wrong rod was used on galvanized stock.

Welding on a DoorKing operator arm or chassis also voids your operator warranty if it is still active, and DoorKing will not cover a failure caused by an unauthorized weld repair. We do this work with the gate blocked and secured, the metal prepped properly, and the final weld dressed and primed so it does not rust from day one. If you are not sure whether what you are seeing is a crack or a scratch in the powder coat, call (817) 562-7979 and describe what you see. We will tell you honestly whether it needs a truck or just a closer look.
